Alpha - Come From Heaven (1997 Melankolic)

Although Corin Dingley and Andy Jenks keep recording under the Alpha moniker, they never again reached the fragile quality of their debut Come From Heaven, released in 1997 on the Melankolic label run by members of Massive Attack. If you happen to have the 1998 remix collection Pepper, please share with us.

Lascelles - Rock Oil (1996 Orange Egg)

The Orange Egg label hasn't released many albums during it's three years existence, but Rock Oil by the session player and producer Gordon Lascelles is surely the best. Deep ambient soundscapes, dark downtempo beats and sweet vocals by Vanessa Darby on this rare release.

Pressure Drop - Front Row (1993 Boombastic / Marlboro Music)

Sorry for the lack of posting last week. I had to spend the time restoring what was left of my my account after the rude cleansing done by Rapidshare. Please report any missing files by email.

Jazzy sounds, dubby basslines and smooth vocals by Joanna Law on the second album by Pressure Drop AKA Blood Brothers. This piece comes from back in the days when tobacco companies used to run their own record labels;)

The single contains original version plus three mixes by Steve Osborne.

A Certain Ratio - Looking For A Certain Ratio (1994 Creation)

In 1994, the Creation sub label Rev-ola started releasing reissues of many forgotten new wave album including 'O' Level (another project featuring Ed Ball), Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers, Fire Engines and also six classic A Certain Ratio albums available for re-release after Factory Records finally went bankrupt. This remix collection followed the successful single Shack Up (yes, that old funky stomper by Banbarra) and includes some fresh names like Way Out West or Graham Massey (808 State) as well as pretty old names including both New Order members side projects (Electronic and The Other Two), Andy Connell (Swing Out Sister, ex-ACR member) and Mark Brydon (ex-Hula, later Moloko). I've also included the Shack Up single as a bonus.

01 A Certain Ratio-Shack Up (Radio Edit)
02 A Certain Ratio-Flight (Massey Mix)
03 A Certain Ratio-The Fox (MacSilva Mix)
04 A Certain Ratio-There's Only This (Sub Sub's Rainy City Mix)

Ruby - Revenge, The Sweetest Fruit (Salt Peter Remixed) (1996 Creation)

Ruby was a collaboration of riot grrl Lesley Rankine of Silverfish and EBM producer Mark Walk (Pigface, Skinny Puppy) and their debut album Salt Peter was exactly what you'd expect. Fortunately this is a remix collection with tracklist full of great names sweetening the sour aggresive activist edge to acceptable level.

01 Ruby-Flippin' Tha Bird (Ceasefire Remix)
02 Ruby-Salt Water Fish (Peshay Remix)
03 Ruby-Heidi (Scream Team Remix)
04 Ruby-Paraffin (Red Snapper Mix)

Morcheeba - Tape Loop CDS (1995 Indochina)

Coco And The Bean - Killing Time EP (1996 Mantra)

Coco And The Bean was the only project from the mighty Edinburgh trip hop wave of 1995 that actually pushed it through bedroom sessions and white label pressings. Abstract Truth - Get Another Plan EP (1996 Streetwave)

Abstract Truth was one-hit acid jazz combo from NYC led by czech emigree saxophonist Dana Vlcek. Their Get Another Plan became huge after it was licensed for the UK by Talkin' Loud and frequently spinned by it's head honcho Gilles Peterson. This release is the original Streetwave pressing and includes four more tracks unavailable outside the US of A. VA This Is Trip Hop 1 + 2 (1996-97 Beechwood)

Although these two compilations were released as a part of infamous This is... 3CD boxes by Beechwood and obviously doomed to end in sale baskets, you may still find some rare and interesting stuff among the average club-and-radio-friendly tracks. One of them is surely the bonus CD mixed by Jake Wherry, the non-turntablistic half of The Herbaliser. There was also another mixed disc by Naked Funk, unfortunately it seems to be lost forever...

Leftfield - Release The Pressure CDS (1995 Hard Hands)

Ingrid Schroeder - Paint You Blue CDS (1996)

Another Ingrid but the same problem with informations. She used to be a session singer with bands like The Waterboys (sic!) then she'd met the right people and released great debut album Bee Charmer before female trip hop became a cliche. It was produced by 90's icons like Goldie, Howie B and DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill fame. This CDS contains two versions by Muggs and two chilled drum'n'bass trips by Peshay. Recommended listening!

There's not much info available on Ingrid De Lambre. She was a part of The Mighty Bop project in the golden days of french label Yellow Productions. This seems to be her only solo release including three version of Poesies, a track based on a sample from Tohubohu (from the late Marc Moulin's 1975 album Sam Suffy) plus Elements Of Life by The Mighty Bop.
