The Remix According To DJ Vadim (2012 Future Vintage Vaults)

Over the last 18 years, this USSR-born London resident with connections in Paris and NYC has become a white B-boy icon, and not just for being the whitest of them all. It's not only his career of a DJ, producer and a head of (sadly deceased) Jazz Fudge abstract hip hop label, that had created his rep, but also his remix works. This Future Vintage Vaults compilation brings you a dozen of his coolest reworks. Enjoy and if you like the shit and feel like a little Christmas charity, use the Donate button.

The Remix According To Mixmaster Morris (2012 Future Vintage Vaults)

No need to introduce Mixmaster Morris to you Future Vintage readers. Despite the fact that there's only a handful of his own releases or creative collaborations, he was always present on the electronic scene somehow, and his last The Irresistible Force album It's Tomorrow Already, (released some 13 years ago) is so futuristic that its time is yet to come, believe me. This 10-track Future Vintage Vaults compilation starts with his early (and obviously outdated) rave and trance excursions, then falls backwards into blissful sound vortexes, sooo typical for this long-running champion of ambient music and everything related (says discogs;).

01 Hardfloor-Acperience 1 (Remix By Casper Pound And Mixmaster Morris)
02 Rising High Collective-No Deeper Love (Irrisistible Force Mix)
03 Transform-Transformation (Irresistible Trance Mix)
04 Barbarella-Barbarella (The Irresistible Force Remix)
05 The Shamen-Scientas (Irresistible Force Mix)
06 Coldcut-Autumn Leaves (Irresistible Force Trip Mix 2)
07 Bang Bang Machine-Geek Love (Irresistible Ambient Mix)
08 Higher Intelligence Agency-Speedlearn (Reformed By The Irresistible Force)
09 Aural Expansion-Freeform Attractor (Remixed By Mixmaster Morris)

The Remix According To Groove Armada (2012 Future Vintage Vaults)

What can I say about this duo - I loved their music and videos until they sold out completely after their third album. At The River with that thymoline Patti Page sample was a gorgeous soundtrack to an ending century. This Future Vintage Vaults compilation contains a dozen of their early remixes, remarkable for great sound design and awesome chilling capacity.

01 Akasha-Crazy Baby (Groove Armada's Presque Celebre Mix)
02 Space Raiders-Disko Doktor (Groove Armada Remix)
03 Visit Venus-Kinski Disko Fox Machine (Groove Armada Remix)
04 Language Lab-Burning Disaster (Groove Armada Bedtime Story Mix)
05 Q-Burns Abstract Message-Feng Shui (Groove Armada's Lost In Space Remix)
06 Natural Calamity-And That's Saying A Lot (Groove Armada's 2nd Dub)
07 A Tribe Called Quest-Description Of A Fool (GA's Acoustic Mix)
08 Shirley Bassey-Never Never Never (Groove Armada Mix)
09 Mad*nna-Music (Groove Armada 12 Mix)
10 Handsome Boy Modeling School-Sunshine (Groove Armada Sunset Dub)
11 Rae & Christian-Let It Go ft The Pharcyde (Groove Armada's Country House Remix)

Back from the dead? Back to the Future!

Future Vintage has entered it's fourth year of existence. It means not only some 300+ posts, about 2000 comments, 420.000 visitors (plus 75.000 at the Pork blog) and zillions of downloaded files, but also some great albums and even whole labels brought back to life, many various rare assets gathered and record collections completed for you my readers as well as for me.

Looking back at the history of this blog, there had been gaps in the posting cycle now and then, but none as serious as the hiatus FV experienced in the last seven months. Actually I've put the blog on hold and never was it so close to permanent closedown. All that caused by a single piece of hate mail I've found in a comment box.

psychoalphadisco wrote: Please support this blog: DONATE. who do you think you're fooling? "Mostly promo items, free compilations and stuff that didn't fit anywhere else." and you want money for that? get yourself a consciousness, mate. artists aren't even paid anymore, blogspot/blogger is free... so WHY WOULD YOU WANT SOME MONEY FOR SHARING STUFF THAT WAS FREE FOR YOU, AND FOR WHICH REASON WOULD IT BE LEGITIMATE? bloggers who share for the pleasure of sharing don't ask for money

Frankly, this piece of crap made me so sad and bitter that I didn't feel like blogging anymore. I have no idea what could possibly have brought psychoalphadisco to write that comment. Not only it is mean, it is wrong. The fact that I share for the pleasure of sharing doesn't mean it doesn't cost me money, not mentioning the time invested in the FVV remix series. Man, talk is cheap, but you still have to pay for your mobile, right?

I founded Future Vintage after my two jazz-funk blogs, CTI Never Sleeps and Lemuria, became so popular they had to be taken down by The Man. Anyway, via the Donate button those blogs generated enough finance to keep my gigantic RS account alive long after the untimely death of the blogs. Hell, some of the CTI files are still online and are being downloaded regularly from stolen links. But the finance are long gone and RS ain't for free. Yes, there's a Donate button on FV too, but in the blog's three years existence, the donations paid for about five months. The rest was on me. And as I seem to be "between jobs" permanently, all unnecessary costs have to be cut.

Back in the winter I've emptied my PayPal account to buy as much time on RS as I could. Well, the time is gone now and I can't afford to pay the RS bill anymore. As a result, the account will expire about a month from now. There will be no re-ups and the files will die off slowly. It's clear some money have to be raised. I decided to keep this blog ad-free, so there will be no pop-ups or adfly screens, no way. So all that could keep this blog alive are your donations. The last time it was toastkid, whose donation brough FV back to life. Next time it could be you...

The fact that I've resigned on blogging for a while does not mean I've resigned on ripping and collecting piles of interesting remixes and exclusive tracks. The compilations close to completion include remix packs by 4Hero, 808 State, Adrian Sherwood, Air, Alex Reece, Andy Weatherall, Apollo 440, Ashley Beedle (yes, Part 3), Attica Blues, Brian Eno, Coldcut, David Holmes, DJ Cam, DJ Vadim, Doc Scott, Dreadzone, Fila Brazillia and Pork recording artists, The Future Sound Of London, Global Communication, Charles Webster, Ian O'Brien, The Irresistible Force, Kid Loco, Kid Loops, Mad Professor, Nellee Hooper, Nobukazu Takemura, Nuyorican Soul, Palm Skin Productions, Peshay, Portishead, Propellerheads, Rockers Hi-Fi and Different Drummer record label, Stereo MC's, The Wiseguys, Tom Middleton, Underdog, UNKLE and specials dedicated to Alison Goldfrapp, Elisabeth Troy, Morcheeba and The Amalgamation Of Soundz.

Enough ranting, time for some serious blogging. There are some heavy beats waiting for you below.

Stay tuned!

The Remix According To Red Snapper (2012 Future Vintage Vaults)

I used to love that deep Red Snapper trade mark sound on their first two albums and even though I can't say the same about their late 90s material or their current ressurection, their remixes definitely deserve to have their own Future Vintage Vaults collection. Enjoy and stay tuned!

The Remix According To Wax Doctor (2012 Future Vintage Vaults)

As I was looking back upon already published FVV collections I realised we didn't have a real drum'n'bass artist in this series yet. To correct this, I've spent last weeks waist-deep in d'n'b remixes and here comes the first result: a small collection of remixes by my favourite producer Paul Saunders, better known as Wax Doctor. To me, his sound is a substance of intelligent d'n'b - complex breakbeats, funky basslines, bent DX7 pads and cool samples. All these remixes originate between 1995 and 1998; the best era of d'n'b in my humble opinion.

01 The Ballistic Brothers-Come On (Wax Doctor's Simon Templar Remix)
02 Rob D-Clubbed To Death (Wax Doctor Totally Waxed Mix)
03 DJ Pulse-Let You In (Wax Doctor Remix)
04 St. Germain-Alabama Blues (Wax Doctor Mix)
05 Model 500-I Wanna Be There (Wax Doctor Remix)
06 Loophole-A New Loophole (Wax Doctor Remix)
07 Frank De Wulf-Drums In A Grip (Wax Doctor Mix)
08 Dave Angel-This Is Disco (Wax Doctor Remix)
09 Friends From Rio-Maracutudo (Wax Doctor Remix)
10 Wax Doctor-Kid Caprice (Funk Mix)

If you like this FVV release and crave for more, you shouldn't sleep on this fine mix by Blick that contains many rare tracks not present here.

A Reminiscent Drive - Side Effects (Rare Tracks 1996-1998) (2012 Future Vintage Vaults)

Here comes a very special (at least for me) Future Vintage Vaults extra - 76 minutes of dreamy downtempo soundscapes by Jay Alansky AKA A Reminiscent Drive. These 16 blissfull tracks were collected from long time unavailable EPs (all except for Inédits EP) and compilations and include hard to get material from his Mercy Street era; because he's never been so good again. The package includes an original cover made by me, a pastiche of the minimalistic design line common for all ARD early releases. All the tracks were previously released on the mighty F Communications label, of course. Hope you'll have as much fun listening to it as I had while putting it together. Stay tuned!

The Remix According To Ashley Beedle Volume One (2012 Future Vintage Vaults)

If there was a Museum Of Dance Music, Ashley Beedle would surely have a big hall just for himself. The enormous amount of remixes by this many-faceted individual could feed a blog of its own. Because I'm such a lazy lizzard, I'm loving especially his non-house and downtempo line of work which is contained on this fine double disc collection. And yes, there will probably be a sequel dedicated to his four-to-the-floor work sometime in the near future (if there will be any), so don't bother asking ;-)

Stay tuned!
