Dynamic Syncopation - Dynamism (1999 Ninja Tune)

The first and the better of two albums Jonny Cuba and Loop Professor AKA Dynamic Syncopation recorded for Ninja Tune. Dynamism is full of great hip hop tracks with Mass Influence or Juice Aleem, but I like this album for the same reason as the early The Herbaliser stuff - for those smooth instrumental tracks with chilled beats and juicy samples. No games this time.

Jacob's Optical Stairway - Jacob's Optical Stairway (1995 R&S)

Marc Mac and Dego again, this time under their Jacob's Optical Stairway moniker. At first this album sounds like an updated version of 4Hero debut album Parallel Universe, but give it a second chance. Yes, there are some solid breakbeats, atmospheric electronics and expert knob-twiddling, but also a touch of that cold Detroit techno sound. No wonder Jacob's Optical Stairway was co-produced by Josh Wink and Juan Atkins (of Model 500 fame) and released on belgian R&S, the coolest european techno label of the 90's. Even after 15 years it's joy to listen to these tracks, Fragments Of A Lost Language being my favourite.

Speaking of R&S, any chance somebody would have Volume 6 of their In Order To Dance compilation series? Yeas, it's the red drum'n'bass one.. Thanks.

Tek 9 - It's Not What You Think It Is!?!! (1996 Reinforced)

Marc Mac and Dego present their hip hop/trip hop alter ego Tek9. Disc one contains the regular album It's Not What You Think It Is!?!!, a collection of mellow trippy breakbeats with loads of classic samples. Disc two, titled Breakin' Sound Barriers, is a journey back in time and brings some oldskool jungle breaks from joyous daze of early 90's.

Chris Bowden with 4Hero - Hero EP (1998 Satellite)

Marc Mac and Dego AKA 4Hero meet saxophone player Chris Bowden in this one-off session, released on Satellite Records, an experimental subsidiary of Soul Jazz Records. Chilled classical sound with some cool breakbeats and sax, some vocals too. A recommended listening for sunday afternoon.

4Hero - Earth Pioneers EP (1997 Talkin' Loud)

Earth Pioneers EP is the first release after Marc Mac and Dego AKA 4Hero signed with Gilles Petterson's Talkin' Loud label and includes mostly material from their (then) forthcoming album Two Pages which finally made them famous outside strictly drum'n'bass community.

The Wiseguys - The Antidote (1998 Wall Of Sound)

While The Wiseguys' debut album Executive Suite was acclaimed mostly by notorious headz, The Antidote was a remarkable success and two great singles Ooh La La and Start The Commotion made it to the dancefloors, MTV and.. TV commercials. We'll probably never know why DJ Touche and DJ Regal couldn't keep it together but the fact is there's only Touche on the cover pic and no more The Wiseguys recordings after this album.

For those who miss The Wiseguys sound: checks DJ Regal's last year's album Time Past. Definitely one of my 2009 favs.

Dirty Beatniks - One One Seven In The Shade (1996 Wall Of Sound)

One One Seven In The Shade is the debut album by another Wall Of Sound project Dirty Beatniks. The album contains all the Beatniks' floorfillers from the golden age of big beat, including Beatnik Bounce, Gettin' Stupid and my fav Hypnotysin'.

Like the sound? Then you shouldn't miss this.

Propellerheads - Dive EP (1996 Wall Of Sound)

Hello! Anybody here? I'm back after a fruitfull month spent by doing anything but blogging. Back with clean head and also my enthusiasm pump kicked back in. Must say that after the shitty start of this year it felt really good. OK, enough of this bull a let's do some serious record digging.
For those who hate that fake bond-esque orchestral sound that made Propellerheads famous after their first and only album, this debut EP is Bond-free pre-Decksandrumsandrockandroll full-blooded big beat sound, released on South London based label Wall Of Sound, for some good reasons named after Phil Spector's famous system of massive-sounding mono recordings.
