In the early 90s, Mike Smith was one of the good souls of acid jazz scene, having played sax and flute with almost everyone, including The James Taylor Quartet, Brand New Heavies, Corduroy, Mother Earth and Jamiroquai. His solo album as The Whole Thing was one of my first JAZIDs, I bought it the same day as Corduroy's High Havoc (lost or never returned, how I miss it..) so it somehow represents the essence of Acid Jazz Records to me.
