Rhys Chatham Jonathan Kane DJ Elated System - Septile EP (1997 ntone)

This four-track EP is far from the usual pads'n'delays ntone sound. Both Rhys Chatham and Jonathan Kane are trained musicians from the NYC experimental electronic scene, they have instruments and are not afraid to mutilate them. Not my cup of tea but it deserves to be posted just for the documentary reasons.

Real Life - The Journey Of The Carcharadon (1994 ntone)

Another ntone relic by Paul Castle AKA Real Life. Although it isn't half as sophisticated as Neotropic album, this hour-long trip through electronic soundscapes will surely please fans of projects like Drome or Manna.

VA Future - A Journey Through The Electronic Underground (1997)

This was originally a soundtrack to the obsolete BBC TV documentary. If you ignore the two boring tracks featuring whispers of The X-Files doll Gillian Anderson (wow! how exciting it was back then), you'll get a decent double CD of 90's avant-garde electronica and fine ambient.

01 Hal featuring Gillian Anderson-Extremis
02 Fluke-Atom Bomb
03 Photek-KJZ
04 Future Sound Of London-Smokin' Japanese Babe
05 Massive Attack-Karmacoma-Bumper Ball Dub
06 Sacred Spirits-Winter Ceremony-Howie B Left Foot Mix
07 The Chemical Brothers-Loops Of Fury
08 Future Sound Of London-Snake Hips
09 Hal featuring Gillian Anderson-Extremis-Qattara Remix

02 u-Ziq-Salsa With Mesquite
03 Ostiak-Hal-CP Emporium Mix
04 William Orbit-Water From A Vine Leaf

06 The Grid-Crystal Clear-Clear, Like An Unmuddied Lake
07 Brian Eno and Jah Wobble-Space Diary 1
08 Paul Shutze-Sleep 2

VA Trancemitter (1993 Wigwam)

I'm sorry for not posting much recently but i'm in rather difficult mood since Google banned my Lemuria blog, probably because of the much visited spicy Lialeh post. I'm in a state of negotiations with The Man, but the ban doesn't seem to be released anytime soon.

This fine compilation was the first release of Wigwam, a short-lived german label best known for the first Drome and Nonplace Urban Field albums. The content is more ambient than trance so don't expect any Loveparade anthems. You will find some Drome and Nonplace Urban Field tracks plus material from great electronic artists like Sandoz, Marmion and Speedy J. My fav is Voyager by Orb's Andy Falconer.

01 Drome-Party In The Wood Part 1
02 Sandoz-Limbo
03 Exquisite Corpse-Sacrifice
04 Drome-Party In The Wood Part 2
05 A. Falconer-Voyager
06 Cirrus Minor-Muslim
07 Marmion-The Secret Plant
08 Spyra-City Of Glass
09 Speedy J.-Pepper
10 Nonplace Urban Field-Put It In Here Jungle
11 Drome-Bipolar Trip
12 Nonplace Urban Field-Mouth Shut

The Clifford Gilberto Rhythm Combination - Deliver The Weird EP (1998 Ninja Tune)

Deliver The Weird EP contains a couple of off-album tracks from I Was Young And I Needed The Money, a twisted jazzy drum'n'bass collection by Clifford Gilberto AKA Florian Schmitt. Too bad he didn't release more than this...

VA Frying The Fat (1995 Grand Central)

Grand Central Records, founded in 1995 by Mark Rae and named after Manchester railway station, soon generated a solid roster of artists, mancunian or not. The names like Rae & Christian, Aim, Only Child, Riton, Fingathing or Jon Kennedy were of the more interesting on the 90's trip hop scene. Frying The Fat is the first official Grand Central label compilation.

VA The Future Sound Of Jazz Vol. 1 (1995 Compost)

With releases from Jazzanova, Fauna Flash, Beanfield or Kyoto Jazz Massive, the Munich-based Compost Records became the most influential off-UK trip hop and nujazz label of the 90's. Although The Future Sound Of Jazz serie has reached Volume 11 last year, it lacks the clairvoyant quality and distinction of the classic Volume 1, so take this as a nice reminder that Compost started far from deep house scene.

VA Abstract Vibes (1995 Quango)

Quango Records was one of US branches of Island Records managed by LA based A&R and DJ Bruno Guez. Since 1994 the label became one of the most influential importers of UK and european club culture having licensed many great acts from labels like G-Stone, Dorado, Pork or Clear. Quango releases gained the cult status thanks to classic series Dimensions In Ambience or A Journey Into Ambient Groove which i will probably post sometimes later. Abstract Vibes is a great taster of Quango couch culture activities from 1995.
